The water used to put the fire out
Fire, smoke and water in the same building
There is what burned, there is what the smoke reached, and there is what the water did. They run to different clocks and need different work, and the second and third routinely affect more of a house than the first.
Smoke moves with air, so it goes where the building's air goes: up the stairwell, into return ducts, through wall cavities, into closets that were shut the entire time. Soot is acidic, and that is the part with a deadline. Left in place it etches metal, discolours grout and stone, and yellows plastics permanently. Contents that were cleanable in week one are frequently not by week five.
First
Secure the building, then deal with the water
Before any cleaning happens the structure has to stop getting worse. Board-ups over broken windows and doors, emergency tarping where a roof or upper floor is open, and the property secured against weather and against anyone walking in. Most policies require this and most cover it.
Then the water, ahead of the soot. Firefighting puts a great deal of water into a building very quickly and it is still there after everyone leaves. The mold clock started the moment the hoses did, and it does not care what caused the water.

Scope
What fire and smoke work involves
Emergency board-up and tarping
Windows, doors and open roof sections secured the same day.
Water extraction and drying
Everything the fire service left, dried to a measured target.
Soot removal
Dry cleaning first to lift loose soot, then wet cleaning matched to the residue type.
Structural cleaning
Walls, ceilings, framing and the surfaces smoke reached but flames did not.
HVAC and ducts
If the system ran, it distributed soot and will keep doing so.
Odor treatment
Done last, at the source, because everything before it would undo it.
“Working with Cam, Lauren, and All Dry has been a pleasure. They were responsive, hard working and reasonably priced. I highly recommend them!”

Odor
Why a masked odor returns
Smoke odor persists because the particles causing it are lodged inside porous material: drywall, framing, carpet backing, textiles. Air freshener does nothing to that, and ozone alone does not reach it. Masking a smoke smell is the most common shortcut in this industry and it fails on the first humid day, because humidity reactivates the residue.
Real deodorisation means removing what cannot be cleaned, cleaning what can, treating the remaining porous material, and sealing surfaces where residue cannot be fully extracted. It is slower and it is the difference between moving back in and moving back in twice.
